Learning Objectives
Upon successful completion of this course, participants will be able to:
- Define Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy and describe its evidence base.
- Explain the Adaptive Information Processing (AIP) model and its role in understanding trauma and healing.
- Identify the eight phases of the EMDR therapy protocol.
- Recognize the range of clinical presentations for which EMDR may be an appropriate treatment approach.
- Describe the three-pronged approach to EMDR treatment (past, present, and future).
- Discuss the potential benefits and therapeutic outcomes associated with EMDR therapy.
- Recognize the role of bilateral stimulation within the EMDR process.
- Apply foundational knowledge to determine when referral for formal EMDR Basic Training may be appropriate.
